Wasomi is a community based not-for-profit initiative registered in Kenya. A champion for the promotion of the arts and cultural economy, the initiative sustainable cultural entrepreneurship through coordination of diverse projects, capacity building, value addition to cultural projects, and advocacy. Our definition of culture is broad. For instance, we promote behavioural cultures such as educational excellence through reading for pleasure by provision and/ or development of literature materials; information dissemination for arts enthusiasts; cultural integration through storytelling events; promotion of sports culture; theatre arts as a means towards earning a daily living, etc. The harnessing of the cultural creative economy as a result promotes peace among individuals and societal groups hence boosting development.
This is in line with 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction through strengthening of cultural and creative sectors.
We connect the grassroots to the national and international spaces.
To be an exemplary organisation that promotes arts and culture for peace and development.
To promote cultural expression, independence and integration at the same time for purposes of self and communal development and peaceful co-existence as well as preserving the roots and identities of a people for a prosperous society full of self-pride.
celebrating cultures. strengthening people.
